Spina Bifida Texas Executive Director Rosanne Gonzales talks about spina bifida, a birth defect that can be mild to severe, depending on the type. She talks about how they support families who have a child with spina bifida and how they work on prevention. She says it's important for women to take folic acid for three months before they become pregnant, and during pregnancy because the folic acid can prevent spina bifida. And since half of pregnancies are unplanned, she says it's important for women of child-bearing age to get enough folate, or folic acid on a daily basis. https://www.sbtx.org/

6-2-2024 CENTER FOR REFUGEE SERVICES

Center for Refugee Services Executive Director Margaret Costantino talks about the work that the non-profit organization does to help legally resettled refugees adjust to life in San Antonio. She says the refugees come in waves, depending on circumstances around the world. Right now, there are thousands of refugees from Afghanistan in San Antonio. She talks about the challenges they face, and how the Center helps them with diapers and food, learning English, applying for benefits and finding employment. https://sarefugees.org/

5-26-2024 SAN ANTONIO HUMANE SOCIETY HOSTING SUMMER CAMP

San Antonio Humane Society Director of Community Engagement Kim Hinze says they have plenty of dogs and cats, puppies and kittens available for adoption. She talks about the spay and neuter program they have, with some specials coming up. She also invites children to participate in the various summer camps at the Humane Society starting in June. They'll learn about taking care of a pet and what goes on at the Society's Northwest San Antonio campus.
